The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Arlington and the broader D.C. region on Friday.
Sweltering heat and humidity are expected to push the heat index as high as 109 degrees, according to forecasters.
The advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday for Northern Virginia, the District, and portions of Maryland.
Officials warn that the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses for those spending extended time outdoors.
Residents are urged to take precautions by staying hydrated, seeking air conditioning, and limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
