A man has been charged with first degree murder after allegedly shooting his mother to death inside an apartment in Virginia Square.
Logan Chrisinger, 27, is being held at the Arlington County jail on murder and two other charges.
Police were dispatched to the Virginia Square Towers building on Fairfax Drive around 8:30 a.m. Sunday after a 911 caller claimed his mother shot herself in a bedroom in his apartment, according to scanner traffic. Officers found the woman still breathing but with a gunshot wound to the head, initial reports suggest.
The woman — 57-year-old Travis Renee Baldwin of Winchester, Va. — was pronounced dead at the hospital. Chrisinger, who “remained on scene when police arrived,” was subsequently arrested for her murder, according to an Arlington County Police Department press release.
No motive for the shooting was given.

The Arlington County Police Department is announcing charges in a domestic-related homicide in the Ballston-Virginia Square neighborhood. Logan Chrisinger, 27, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with Murder – 1st Degree, Aggravated Malicious Wounding and Using a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. He is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
At approximately 8:28 a.m. on August 17, police were dispatched to the 3400 block of Fairfax Drive for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female inside a residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers administered lifesaving measures before medics transported her to a local hospital. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect fatally shot his mother inside the residence. The suspect remained on scene when police arrived.
The victim has been identified as Travis Renee Baldwin, 57, of Winchester, VA. Official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
