A pair of teenage suspects is facing charges after police say they crashed a car they had just stolen near Ballston.
The incident happened around 11:15 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, along the 600 block of N. Tazewell Street. According to police, the teens were trying door handles before finding an unlocked vehicle, getting in, and tampering with the ignition. They then “began driving out of the parking space when they struck an unoccupied, parked vehicle resulting in minor damage.”
The suspects tried to flee but police set up a perimeter and soon took them into custody.

VEHICLE TAMPERING (Significant), 2025-12310186, 600 block of N. Tazewell Street. At approximately 11:22 p.m. on December 31, police were dispatched to the report of a larceny from auto. Upon arrival, it was determined a witness observed suspects trying door handles of parked vehicles. The suspects then entered an unlocked vehicle, tampered with the ignition and began driving out of the parking space when they struck an unoccupied, parked vehicle resulting in minor damage. The suspects ran from the vehicle and responding officers established a perimeter and apprehended two teenage juvenile male suspects. Petitions are pending for the suspects.
Also in the crime report from New Year’s Eve, a 20-year-old Arlington man is facing multiple charges after being pulled over along Columbia Pike with, police say, an open container of alcohol and a gun with an extended magazine in the car.

WEAPONS VIOLATION (Significant), 2025-12310157, Columbia Pike at S. Walter Reed Drive. At approximately 8:31 p.m. on December 31, an officer conducted a traffic stop and upon making contact with the driver, observed an open alcohol container inside the vehicle and determined the driver was not licensed. During a search of the vehicle, a concealed firearm with an extended magazine was recovered. [The suspect], 20, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Concealed Firearm, Possession of an Extended Magazine and Possession of an Open Container.
Thanks to their vigilance and thorough investigation, the suspect was charged and held on no bond, demonstrating our commitment to keeping the community safe.
