A new pottery studio offering customers a chance to paint their own bowls, mugs and figurines is opening in Shirlington this weekend.
Paint Your Heart Out is throwing a grand opening starting at 11 a.m. this Saturday for its new studio at 2780 S. Arlington Mill Road, where Shirlington Cleaners used to be. The grand opening will include a $50 gift card raffle, and the first 50 guests to make a $50 purchase will be given a complimentary mug to decorate.
The studio, which is open for artists of all ages, lets customers choose a piece of pottery and paint it their own way. The store takes care of the rest, glazing it and firing it for pickup in a week.
Owners Nikki Vandover and Theresa Spoth have worked together for over a decade at the first Paint Your Heart Out location in Occoquan, which opened in 2000.
They hope to host workshops and community events in the new 1,776-square-foot studio.
“We love creating things by hand and opening doors to artistic discovery,” Spoth said in a press release. “For us, art is about sparking imagination, building community, and creating moments of joy. We are excited for the Shirlington community to gather, experiment, and express themselves through art.”
The business owners said they chose Shirlington Village for its “welcoming, walkable community which reminds us of Occoquan,” a town of about 1,000 people in Prince William County.
Pottery items range from $10 to $70, according to the business’s website. Guests can also book a party table for up to 10 guests for $50 with a minimum group purchase of $300.
Planned hours at the new studio are 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. It accepts walk-ins and reservations.
