The Angie upscale bistro soft opening today in Virginia Square

An upscale American French bistro is hosting its first dinner guests today (Friday) in Virginia Square.

Balloon arches up, patio seating is in place and workers were bustling around The Angie amid its long-awaited debut at 3901 Fairfax Drive, which included free coffee and pastries this morning, a spokesperson told ARLnow.

“Ballston, we’re almost ready… and we’re taking it to a whole new level,” the restaurant posted on Instagram last week.

The Angie’s website is still pretty bare-bones and doesn’t include a menu, yet. However, the establishment originally advertised European dishes with an “upscale, American twist” and highlights including ricotta ravioli with kalamata olives and lobster frites with roasted garlic butter crust.

The concept includes 162 total seats, outdoor dining, a full-service bar, a barista bar, a lounge and a private dining room.

The Angie first announced plans to open on the ground floor of a nine-story office building back in October 2024, shortly after the building completed construction. It was originally projected to open in spring 2025.

“The Angie will bring an elevated dining experience to 3901 Fairfax,” Mark Carroll, Skanska’s executive vice president for commercial development in the D.C. area, said at the time. “It will be the perfect spot for tenants and the surrounding community to enjoy exceptional food and hospitality with a relaxed and spacious alfresco feel.”

The bistro is a partnership between the founders of For Five Coffee Roasters and D.C.-based Balos Restaurant Group.

The Angie has two sister restaurants: Bar Angie in D.C.’s West End neighborhood and Angie’s on Long Island.

Other businesses on the ground floor of 3901 Fairfax Drive include Skin Pharm skincare center, which opened earlier this year, and M2 strength training gym, which opened last year.
