Firefighters from Arlington and neighboring jurisdictions are battling a major house fire in the Country Club Hills neighborhood.
The blaze was reported just after 1 p.m. amid heavy rain and at least one nearby lightning strike, though the cause of the fire is not currently known. Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a house set well back from the street.
A second and then third alarm was sounded as firefighters worked to battle the flames. Around the time of the third alarm, a mayday was declared for an injured firefighter, who has since been removed from the house and is receiving medical care, according to initial reports. The extent of the firefighter’s injuries is not immediately clear.
“Expect a significant fire department response in the area,” the Arlington County Fire Department said via social media. “Please avoid the area if possible and use alternate routes.”
