While one all-you-can-eat sushi spot just opened on Columbia Pike, a similar restaurant further north in Arlington appears to have closed.
Sakaki Izakaya, a Clarendon restaurant selling Japanese street food, rice and noodles and desserts in addition to sushi, is listed as “permanently closed” on Google. No official announcements appear to be posted online, but the restaurant at 3227 Washington Blvd was not open during its listed hours yesterday (Wednesday) and it is no longer accepting online orders.
A spokesperson for Ivea Concepts, the restaurant group behind Sakaki Izakaya, did not respond to a request for comment.
Sakaki Izakaya opened in 2023, around the same time that Ivea Concepts opened a dim sum spot, Tiger Dumplings, next door. Tiger Dumplings still appears to be open.
Sakaki Izakaya sold a variety of classic and signature sushi rolls, sashimi, nigiri and temaki, or hand rolls. It also offered rice and noodle options such as ramen, udon and wagyu fried rice, plus desserts, drinks and a “late night” menu with more limited options for sushi and appetizers.
All-you-can-eat dinner was $45 per person, while lunch was $29.
Helping to fill the apparent void, another all-you-can-eat sushi spot, MoMoGoGo, opened up in Penrose Square on Saturday. It serves a wide selection of sushi rolls and other Japanese dishes in an atmosphere heavily inspired by Japan.
Other all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants in Arlington include Toryumon Japanese House in Rosslyn (1650 Wilson Blvd) and, as of last November, Kanji Izakaya in Ballston (4301 Fairfax Drive).
