Leaf collection season is two weeks away in Arlington

As fall colors sweep across the D.C. area, Arlington leaf collection season begins in two weeks.

Crews are expected to begin passing through Arlington neighborhoods starting Monday, Nov. 11, according to a tentative schedule. Residents are encouraged to rake leaves to the curb the weekend before their civic association’s posted start date.

VDOT to discuss plans to rebuild bridge over N. Glebe Road

A public hearing on plans to replace a 60-year-old bridge over N. Glebe Road is happening tonight.

The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to rebuild the Old Glebe Road bridge, just up the hill from Chain Bridge, with a wider sidewalk on the eastern side and an additional sidewalk on the western side.

Missing Middle construction projects that halted after a court decision last month received permission to move forward today.

Despite declaring Arlington’s Expanded Housing Options unlawful and preventing the county from issuing any more EHO permits last month — a decision the county now intends to appeal — Circuit Court Judge David Schell presented a path forward for some developers Friday morning.

An Arlington School Board candidate and a local LGBTQ+ advocacy group are locking horns over questions of support and inclusion for transgender students.

Equality Arlington issued a statement earlier this week taking aim at Forward Party-endorsed candidate James “Vell” Rives’ stance on Arlington Public Schools’ nondiscrimination policy for transgender students.

Plans for new Arlington Blvd median and turn lanes scheduled for public meeting

Planned improvements to Arlington Blvd are set to be discussed at a public forum next week.

Proposed changes by the Virginia Department of Transportation focus on a crash-prone stretch of Route 50 between Glebe Road and Fillmore Street. Among the proposed changes are a raised median and dedicated left turn lanes at some particularly hazardous intersections.

Arlington Transit workers reach tentative contract deal, allaying fears of a strike

Arlington Transit workers have reached a tentative deal with their employer, diminishing the threat of possible disruption to ART bus service.

If ratified, the agreement would put an end to several months of increasingly tense negotiations between ART workers and the county-contracted transportation company Transdev.

MoCo leaders take a tour of Arlington missing middle housing

Elected leaders and other stakeholders from Montgomery County, Md. were in Arlington last week to tour examples of “missing middle” housing.

The tour did not include any construction projects started under Arlington’s Expanded Housing Options, which a judge overturned last month, putting the completion of such projects in doubt. Instead, it focused on the look, feel and impact of two other examples of housing densification in South Arlington.

Two Arlington zip codes rank among the region’s highest home value increases

Two Arlington zip codes saw some of Northern Virginia’s highest increases in home values over the past year, by one metric.

The new rankings, compiled by UrbanTurf, come as property values are continuing to rise both in Arlington and across the region. However, small data sets and variance in the types of properties sold may limit how much it’s possible to read into the numbers.
