Arlington has failed to collect over $1M in alarm registration fees over the past few years

Arlington has failed to collect more than $1 million in security alarm registration fees over the past four years, according to county data.

The Arlington County Board passed an ordinance in 2020 requiring all alarm owners to pay a $25 annual registration fee for every alarm system. Based on the estimated 13,492 systems in the county at the time, the county was expected to generate an additional $337,000 in revenue every year.

New mural to adorn trail tunnel entrance in Crystal City

A new mural will be installed in Crystal City this month.

The entrance to the Mount Vernon Trail at the (recently revamped) Water Park will be the site of the 245-foot mural, which will highlight the area’s connectivity, according to artist J.D. Deardourff.

Six years after it opened, Virginia Square’s Extreme Pizza has closed its doors.

The pizzeria, which boasts a unique twist on traditional pizza offerings, shuttered at 3444 Fairfax Drive on Saturday after battling the longstanding effects of the pandemic, franchisee Ernie Harris said.

New ice cream shop in Crystal City eyes June opening

(Updated at 3:30 p.m.) New York-based ice cream chain Van Leeuwen expects to open its Crystal City location next month.

The shop will occupy retail space underneath The Grace, the new apartment tower at 269 19th Court S. The shop is planning on an early June opening.
