New ice cream shop in Crystal City eyes June opening

(Updated at 3:30 p.m.) New York-based ice cream chain Van Leeuwen expects to open its Crystal City location next month.

The shop will occupy retail space underneath The Grace, the new apartment tower at 269 19th Court S. The shop is planning on an early June opening.

Van Leeuwen’s Crystal City location is the company’s fourth in the D.C. area, following three locations in the District. Two other D.C. outposts are in the company’s plans, according to its website.

Other establishments coming to the property include Tatte Bakery and Cafe, Cuban café Colada Shop and Chinese-French fusion restaurant Bar Chinois, as well as nail salon nailsaloon.

Scheduled to be fully completed later this year, The Grace and neighboring Reva — both owned by JBG Smith — will have nearly 40,000 square feet in retail space, as well as more than 800 residential units.
