One of the largest marathon races in the country is returning to Arlington this weekend with planned road closures and festivities.
On Sunday, the 49th Marine Corps Marathon — dubbed “The People’s Marathon” — will kick off at 7:55 a.m. at Route 110, between the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery.
One day of D.C. Startup and Tech Week is taking place in Crystal City tomorrow (Tuesday).
Kicking off at 10 a.m. at the National Landing Experience Center at 241 18th Street S., the full day of programming will cover topics including AI and business, Web3 and blockchain, and climate and sustainability.
The sixth annual Arlington Restaurant Week starts next Monday, Oct. 14, featuring dining specials at dozens of local restaurants.
Over 70 eateries around the county will offer promotions on breakfast, lunch and dinner during the event hosted by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.
American Legion Dorie Miller Post 194 and its auxiliary will celebrate their namesake during a special event in Arlington on Friday, Oct. 11.
The second annual “Dorie Miller Day” commemoration ceremony will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the county government’s headquarters at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.
The Arlington Public Library fall book sale is back for a few days of bargain book deals.
The booster group Friends of the Arlington Public Library is holding the event in the Central Library parking garage at 1015 N. Quincy Street, offering thousands of books, games, puzzles and comics for sale. It will start with a “members only” event this afternoon and opening to the public tomorrow morning.
It’s the political equivalent of speed dating – called “candi-dating” or “candidating” (take your pick) – and the League of Women Voters of Arlington & Alexandria City is hosting a chance for Arlington residents to get to know candidates for local office without the long-term commitment of a full-blown candidate forum.
The event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Walter Reed Community Center.
The Arlington County Police Department will mark “National Coffee with a Cop Day” with two happenings on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
“These morning and afternoon events are welcome to all and are a great informal engagement opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns, get to know neighbors and meet officers from different sections of the department,” police officials said.
“Ruff the Runway,” a dog fashion show and fundraiser to support Jane Franklin Dance, will be held on Monday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. at Snouts & Stouts Indoor Dog Park and Bar, 2709 S. Oakland St.
“Strut your mutt down the runway and compete for fantastic prizes,” organizers said. “Whether your pooch is polished, pampered or just plain adorable, this is their time to shine!”
The second Wakefield High School car show is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26 at 8 a.m. in the school’s front parking lot.
The event is a fundraiser for the Class of 2025. There will be a food vendor in the parking lot.
Arlington residents can drop off old electronics, household hazardous materials and small metal items next Saturday at a biannual collection event.
The Environmental Collection and Recycling Event (E-CARE) will take place from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Wakefield High School (1325 S. Dinwiddie Street). Accepted materials include automotive fluids, batteries, fluorescent tubes, pesticides, toner cartridges and paint products.
