Initial results in Arlington’s Democratic County Board primary show a close race at the top.

JD Spain, Sr. leads the first round of vote tallying, with 33%, followed by Natalie Roy with 29% and Tenley Peterson with 23%.


Tomorrow is Juneteenth and that means a number of closures in Arlington.

The federal holiday, on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. In addition to most federal offices being closed, Arlington County offices, libraries, courts and community centers will be closed Wednesday.


The Democratic primary for one open Arlington County Board seat got off to a slow start today.

As of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, only about 3.7% of Arlington registered voters had cast ballots in the Democratic race today. About 5.2% of the county voted early or by mail, according to the county’s election dashboard.

Amazon has committed an additional $1.4 billion to expand housing options in areas near its offices, including Arlington.

The funding, announced ahead of an affordable housing summit today (Monday) at HQ2 in Pentagon City, brings total investment in the company’s Housing Equity Fund up to $3.6 billion.


The Arlington Democratic primary is tomorrow (Tuesday).

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. as five candidates — James DeVita, Julie Farnam, Natalie Roy, Tenley Peterson and JD Spain — compete for the one open seat on the Arlington County Board. Historically, the victor of the Democratic primary tends to be a reliable predictor of the November general election outcome.


Tina Leone, the longtime leader of the Ballston Business Improvement District, is leaving the organization she helped to build.

Leone has been at the helm of the BID for more than a decade, leading the neighborhood through a period of rapid change, including the transformation of Ballston Common Mall to Ballston Quarter. She has also been a regular presence at community events and last year chaired the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.


A man arrested last year in Pentagon City pleaded guilty Friday to two drug charges, including possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

Willie Gene Thorne, 29, of D.C., also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in a drug trafficking crime, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

When to Expect Election Results — “Election officials and the public will know the evening of Tuesday, June 18 how each candidate fared in the first round.
