No ICE at Area Airports — No ICE officers were visible at Dulles, Reagan National or BWI on Monday as the Trump administration deployed immigration agents to 13 other U.S. airports to supplement TSA during the partial government shutdown. New O’Connell Leader Named — Bishop Michael Burbidge has appointed Jonathan Brand as the next head of school at Bishop O’Connell High School, effective July 1. Reminder: Parkway Resurfacing — Resurfacing work on the GW Parkway between Spout Run and Alexandria is set to begin this week. [ARLnow]

Best Arlington condo buildings to watch DC Fireworks

This year’s July 4th fireworks show on the National Mall will set the world record for the largest fireworks display ever, with 860,000 fireworks planned (we normally see 17,000-20,000) over a 40-minute display of explosions and light.

If you can’t bear the thought of dealing with traffic, crowds, and tourists to watch the fireworks, you can buy a private or semi-private view from about a dozen different condo buildings in Arlington.

This week, I’m highlighting Arlington condo buildings that offer the best views of DC fireworks, either from the privacy of your own unit/balcony or a shared rooftop.

Buildings With Exceptional Views from a Shared Rooftop

Pierce (link to inventory since 2025)

Built in 2021, Pierce boasts the highest price per square foot of any building in Arlington, earning its premium with a spectacular rooftop terrace and pool, a penthouse-level owner’s club, two-story gym, and private elevator access to select residences. The units are some of the largest available condos in Northern VA, spanning 1,300-2,400 square feet, ranging in price from about $1M-$4M.

NOW: Strong wind gusts prompt Special Weather Statement

Strong wind gusts are expected late Monday afternoon and evening in Arlington and the D.C. area.

That’s according to a Special Weather Statement just issued by the National Weather Service. The gusts come as a cold front is set to drop temperatures to near freezing overnight.

Big ‘No Kings’ protests planned along Glebe Road and I-66 overpasses this weekend

Another wave of “No Kings” protests will be taking place along several high-visibility areas in Arlington on Saturday.

They’re part of over 3,000 similar events happening around the country on the same day, protesting the Trump administration and its tactics. Culminating in a large afternoon protest along an eight-mile stretch of Glebe Road, the actions will follow similar demonstrations last June and October.

ACFD quickly extinguishes attic fire in Country Club Hills

A family safely got out after the attic of their home in the Country Club Hills neighborhood caught fire this morning.

Firefighters were first dispatched to the house on the 4600 block of 35th Street N. around 9:15 a.m. to investigate a burning light fixture and a haze on the second floor, according to scanner traffic. Arriving units reported smoke coming from the roof and asked for the call to be upgraded and additional resources to be dispatched.

Piles of “snowcrete” and debris are still hanging on at a Virginia Square site almost two months after the winter storm that hit Arlington in late January.

Two main mounds of ice are still present in the parking lot at 1400 N. Quincy Street as of today (Monday) — the larger of which appears to be around 5 to 6 feet high at some points.

Sen. Warner backs bipartisan bill that would give parents new tools to monitor kids on social media

Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) is co-leading a bipartisan bill aimed at giving parents more tools to protect their children on social media.

Warner introduced “Sammy’s Law” today (Monday) alongside Sens. Jon Husted (R-OH) and Katie Britt (R-AL). The legislation would require large social media platforms — those with at least 100 million monthly active users or $1 billion in annual gross revenue — to work with independent safety software providers that can help families monitor children’s accounts, according to the bill text.
