The fieldhouse at Meridian High School Stadium will receive a $600,000 refresh and upgrade under a proposal unanimously approved by Falls Church City School Board members on Nov. 12.

The appropriation was part of a series of one-time-funding requests approved by School Board members, totaling just under $1.5 million in school funds and $400,000 in city-government funds.

A sports training center with ice rinks and batting cages is aiming for a November soft opening at The Crossing Clarendon.

Corobus Sports plans to open in the 20,000-plus square foot property next to The Container Store and formerly held by bounce gym Jumping Joeys. Owner Henry White said the complex, almost all of which is underground, will offer lessons in ice hockey, baseball and softball to young people, in addition to team training and lane rentals.


Schools

Two new synthetic turf fields could be coming to Kenmore Middle School by spring 2027.

Pending final design approval and a proposed $2 million contribution from two local sports organizations, construction on the new fields is slated to begin in winter 2025.


Events

The Arlington County Police Department is launching a summer community engagement series this weekend.

The goal is to build the department’s relationship with the public. Headlining the series is a pair of kid-oriented events — an outdoor game day and a movie marathon.

Four beach volleyball courts are now open in Crystal City as part of Club Volo National Landing, a new temporary recreational site at 223 23rd Street S.

The site is the result of an partnership between developer JBG Smith and Baltimore-based social sports company Volo Sports. The developer is set to construct high rise apartment buildings at the address, but has delayed construction until costs and interest rates settle.

After narrowly missing out on an undefeated season, the Yorktown High School girls lacrosse team can claim a higher title: state champions.

The team defeated Fairfax County’s Robinson Secondary School in Richmond on Saturday, earning the school’s second title in three seasons.

The Washington Post says talks to build a new arena in the National Landing area, not far from Amazon’s HQ2, are underway — but are in the early stages. The talks come as Monumental Sports and Entertainment, which owns the NHL and NBA franchises, contemplates leaving Capital One Arena in D.C. after the expiration of a lease clause in 2027.
