Coming Soon to Clarendon: Mad Rose Tavern?

by ARLnow.com — August 3, 2010 at 2:36 pm 1,609 9 Comments

A planned restaurant called Mad Rose Tavern has applied for a liquor license at 3100 Clarendon Boulevard. The license application, filed on July 27, describes the future establishment as a restaurant with a seating capacity of over 150 seats.

The restaurant’s parent company, Mad Rose Inc., was incorporated on July 7 , according to state records. Little else is known about it.

Curiously, all the storefronts at 3100 Clarendon Boulevard are either currently occupied or have “retail space for lease” signs in the window. A call to the leasing agent has not been returned.

As mentioned in this morning’s Notes, 3100 Clarendon Boulevard is home to such businesses as SoBe Bar & Bistro and Mister Days Sports Rock Cafe.

Hat tip to @jamesp326 for the link to the liquor license.

It’s all fun and games until you get stuck behind 8 idle taxis in that right lane driving south on Highland St after midnight..

      /grinds my gears

Is that the place where Egghead used to be ???

The merchants in that retail of that business ought to pressure the owner to let them pizazz the place up. That monolithic brown granite facade with the uniformly boring green awnings needs it bad. Try walking down the center park there and look over at the businesses and buildings that include Liberty Tavern, Ballroom, Spider Kelly’s and Eventide and on down through Public Shoe, Kabob Bazaar and Goody’s — and then look over at the “Olmstead Building” – Yuk, how boring. Why would anyone choose to walk over by that building except maybe to check out the bomb-sniffing dogs ?

I was making this same argument to a friend. That spot sucks because it is attached to DIA which is a highly secured defense instillation so there are all sorts of inflexible building regulations. It will never be able to compete with places where you can sit to the street.

Can we get who ever is leasing the spaces at 3100 to work their magic in Rosslyn? We have quite a few empty spaces, including the entire Rosslyn Metro Mall food court, and be nice to see more new businesses open up down here.

That strip is so boring and dead. This will help liven it up a bit. Hopefully they’ll have outdoor seating.

I agree with Clarendude that the building itself should ultimately be renovated or redeveloped entirely. It doesn’t do any favors for the retailers currently there…

For those that are asking questions about Mad Rose Tavern, The Restaurant is scheduled to open late this fall in the 3100 building in Clarendon. There will be a large amount of outside patio dining as well as two bars, and is expected to seat aproximately 150 people inside, with the dining room seating about 80. There is a facebook group going up now and I am sure that details will be posted there as they come to light.
