Petco Coming to Old Blockbuster Site On Lee Highway

by ARLnow.com — March 22, 2011 at 2:50 pm 1,673 25 Comments

A construction crew is working to convert what was once a Blockbuster video store into a Petco pet store.

The Blockbuster closed in January at the intersection of Lee Highway and N. Harrison Street. A worker said he expects the build-out to be complete in a month.

should add some much needed BIG STORE X culture to Lee Hwy!

  • Overgrown Bush

    Petsmart has better prices.

    • Elizabeth

They might be, but they are always out of my cat’s food. Some dude comes in and purchases all the cases each and every week and the boutiques prices are sky high. So, I’ll gladly take slightly higher prices in order to feed my finicky one.

Do you know if it’s going to be a regular Petco store or one of their new Unleashed boutique stores?

    • Burger

It says on the sign in the picture it will be an unleashed store.

  • Allan

    Unleashed.

  • Puppy Owner

Personally I think this is great. The boutiques like Wylie Wagg are nice but incredibly overpriced. No more going to the Seven Corners cluster to get my puppy’s food.

    • AllenB

I don’t think Wylie Wagg’s prices are out of line. I’ve done some checking online for the food I buy there and they’re in line with most. And the convenience and service are great. I got my first puppy a year ago and they’ve been incredibly helpful with all the questions I’ve had.

ProTip: Wylie Wagg supply all the other boutique pet stores in the area, so they are the place to shop at for the good prices!

        • Allan

Uh, no they don’t. Not in any way, shape or form. They are retail only and use the same suppliers as the other boutiques and pet stores.

  • Greg

That’s too bad. I like Dominion Pet there.

    • TryTheTacos

      agreed!

      • http://arlingtondirt.blogspot.com/ TGEoA

        Dominion is overpriced.

    • SoCo Resident

      Certainly, face-to-face competition for Dominion!

All Yorktown students have countlessly been let down that none of the new Harrison store openings have been Chipotle.

  • G. Clifford Prout

Would have made a great burger/pizza/forgert store.

    • Burger

      You mean cupcake store

  • BoredHouseWife

    Wegmans

    • Burger

I am sure you are kidding but there is probably not an open area of land large enough to be of interest Wegmans.

I’d rather they knock the entire building down and build a Wawa.

      • Newsy Mom

LUV the idea of a Wawa – anywhere in this area! It would put those nasty dirty 7-11′s out of business.

        • y8s

You seen one convenience store full of hostess crap, you seen em all.

      • Grover

What about the “triangle” of land created by 20 Street N, Woodrow, and Glebe Road just south of Lee Highway? Right now, Thirsty Bernie is doing all the heavy lifting bringing people to that corner. I would love to see a Wegman’s go in there. Is it large enough?

  • ARLN8TIV

I hope they don’t commission a beautiful portrait of dogs on the side of their building. We all know where that would land them!!!!

  • Supportlocals

I stand by my opinion to support the local Arlington businesses that have supported Arlington all these years! Ayres was a mainstay when I was a kid and I’m thrilled that they are still there. I will continue to shop at Dominion. I know a lot of Arlingtonians feel the same way I do.
