Petco Store Coming to Pentagon Row

by ARLnow.com | August 10, 2012 at 2:45 pm | 2,461 views | 24 Comments

An Unleashed by Petco store will be replacing the former Hallmark store at Pentagon Row (1101 S. Joyce Street), the shopping center confirmed on its Facebook page today.

ARLnow.com reported in June that the Hallmark store was closing on July 29 and that employees were telling customers that it would be replaced by a Petco store. At the time, a Petco representative was unable to confirm that report.

Unleashed by Petco is a “boutique” version of the pet retailer’s large-format stores. Arlington’s first Unleashed store opened on Lee Highway last May.

No word on an exact opening date, but Pentagon Row says the new Unleashed store will be holding a grand opening at some point this fall.

        I don’t he’s working with that large a reptile.

      de-clawed gerbils?

      • Tabby_TwoTone

        No thank you.

    Pentagon Row… yawn.

    • WeiQiang

yeah, but is there a vibrant alternative?

What is the difference between a regular Petco and an “Unleashed” Petco?

    • DarkHeart

Unleashed means, if you bring in your pet, it has to fit in your purse.

Nothing. It’s just a “pretend” boutique store. They make them smaller, put some nicer looking fixtures in the stores, but still sell lower-end items with some mid-range items thrown in to make it look like the other independent specialty dog and cat stores.

I was excited about the other one on Lee Highway, went in quite a bit, but stopped when I realized that no one there was ever the same, they didn’t know anything about the food they carry, and the prices were just as high if not higher on some of them as the Dominion Pet Center across the street.

Save your money. Visit Pet Mac or Willie Wag instead.

        • Sam

          Or Dogma in Shirlington.

        • ACPD

there’s been far too much “Willie Wagging” in Arlington recently thankyou

      • Good Grief

Actually I found the opposite. They offer more coupons and rewards than PetSmart, and the store around the corner. Always a sale – especially on the pricier brands.

        • Lauren

If there is always a sale, it is usually because they can’t move it at the regular price. You can be sure they are still making money, so it’s just a marketing ploy retailers have employed for years and it looks like it worked on you!

    Security dog to visitor dog:

I’m sure you’re probably who you say you are but regulations require me to sniff your butt.

Petco has a few brands that work for our old, allergic dog – so it’d be handy to be able to get them near Costco or the mall. Hope his stuff will be stocked in the small store.

  • Tommy

What we need is a small Lowe’s or hardware store. Maybe when that furniture store that never has any customers vacates, a mini-Lowe’s will move in.

    • YTK

Dam right we need a new hardware store. I hate having to go all the way (using public transportation– we know how wonderful that is) to Home Despot just for one lousy screwdriver.

  • 1RLI

I hope the store at Pentagon Row has better service than the one on Lee Highway.

  • Cindy

Thanks for the shout-out EM! I hope Arlingtonians will continue to support locally-owned businesses as they always have! Our staff at PetMAC are well-trained and always available to assist.

AH, we have a number of specialty foods that are great for sensitive dogs (and cats)! Stop in and we can give you some free samples to try!
