Buffalo Wild Wings Coming to Crystal City

Crystal City has been looking to attract just the right business — a bold-faced name that could convince local office workers to stay in the neighborhood for a drink or three while also drawing in people who don’t otherwise live or work in Crystal City.

They may have found just the right place.

Buffalo Wild Wings has just signed a lease for a currently-unoccupied retail space across from Jaleo at 23rd Street and Crystal Drive. The popular beer-wings-and-sports joint should attract quite a crowd.

It will be the sixth ‘BW3‘ in the area, one of two that are near a Metro station (in addition to the Rockville location), and the closest to D.C. proper.

No word yet on when the restaurant will be opening.

Another franchise coming to souless Crystal City.

Yeah its souless, but the whole point is to have better variety of eating and this restaurant plus 3 others coming soon expands the variety and spreads out the crowds more. In my half decade, we’ve seen an Olsson Books come and go, Giant Food closed down, Rite Aid closed down its second location near Devry, and the entire food court is gone including Burger King and Subway in the underground. Trade this for a brand new Nursing School (the hell!?), Larry’s Cookies, Post Office, Slice N Dice with awfully high prices and staff, and Cosi which gets overcrowded all the time.

      What would you rather have?

Glad to see this, of the franchises this is one of my faves (even if they’ve since dropped their third “W” which stood for Weck).

And yeah-it is “another franchise coming to souless Crystal City” but when us CC’ers want something more authentic (or ‘original’ I suppose) there is plenty on 23rd street, Del Ray and Old Town. Certainly not the end of the world that a place built on Mall and Airport traffic have a familiar place for travelers-especially when those places are great fun 🙂

I am very glad to see that Crystal City is getting more ‘chain’ retail. I think that in this economy the only thing that is sustainable is the large corporations that can handle the long term investment in areas like CC. Am I the only one who doesn’t understand how some of the places on 23rd St South stay in business. Most of them charge higher prices and deliver substandard products as compared to the larger chains. I think BW3 will be a more family friendly alternative to the Crystal City Sports Pub, than can be a bit to raucus at times.

I’ve only eaten at one in OH where I travel for work frequently. The wings are great, but all the other food is worse than your average casual dining chain. The more the merrier as far as CC is concerned, though.
