Power Line Work to Close W&OD Trail

Update on 12/13 — The work has been postponed due to high winds. No word yet on when it will be rescheduled.

The W&OD Trail will be closed next Tuesday between Carlin Springs Road and the Bluemont Junction Trail due to overhead work on power lines.

The trail will close starting at 5:00 a.m. on Dec. 14, and is expected to reopen the following day.

A trail that runs parallel to the W&OD, on the other side of Four Mile Run, will be available as an alternative route for trail users, according to county parks spokesperson Susan Kalish.

How am I going to get to work?!?

    • Lou

Through the playground area I suppose. I have to assume the W&OD part is the straight part behind the fields.

      • Novanglus

The W&OD runs on the east side of the creek, past the train car.

But there’s another trail across the creek — alongside the tennis courts and baseball fields, through the south parking lot and past the pavilion and frisbee golf course.

From the south, until the trails merge at Wilson Blvd. the straight to smoothly curving W&OD Trail is always east of Four Mile Run. The parallel, twisty Four Mile Run Trail (which long predates the W&OD Trail and I66 for that matter) is mostly west and occasionally east of Four Mile Run, but is always west of or coterminus with the W&OD trail.

      He he, you said “coterminus.”

      • Let’s Be Free

You’re right I dropped an “o”, know where I might buy a vowel?

        • mehoo

I don’t mind how you spell it, it’s still a funny word. Sounds like a naughty body part.

Would they EVER close Wilson Blvd. And say oh just go over to Key Blvd for the next two days
oh thedrsmatic irony that this I’d announced the same day we announce that we want more people out of their cars.
Wake me up when the County Board truly commits by plowing the bike trails FIRST then plowing the sidewalks and blocking intersections with snow so that bike and Pedro crossings are free and when routine repairs are done on electric wires without closing the trail AND LASTLY the only two transit routes CLOSED by Rail to Dulles construction were the Custody Trail in Arlington and the W&OD In Resting. Cars rule.

    • Let’s Be Free

Chill out charlie. At the point of furthest divergence the detour is perhaps one hundred yards distant from the W&OD trail.

    • mehoo

The detour will add about 20 or 30 meters to the route, for one whole day. Get over it.

  • charlie

Auto complete us not my friend.
    The dramatic irony
    bike and order crossing
The custody trail. Although custody could work.

  • charlie

I know. it won’t kill me.
just trying to make a point, unlike other people. 🙂
