Clarendon’s new Pinkberry frozen yogurt store will be opening on August 5, the company announced last night.

The store will have the address of 1220 N. Filmore Street, but will face Clarendon Boulevard, next to the new Cava restaurant. This will be the third D.C. area location for the California-based company, which claims to have started the national frozen yogurt craze.

In a press release, the company said the Clarendon store will offer “only the highest quality ingredients.”

The Clarendon location will be serving six distinctive Pinkberry flavors: the signature Original flavor, a sweet and tangy yogurt with a refreshing finish; a rich, indulgent Chocolate; Mango, a fruity and light flavor made with authentic Alphonso mango puree; Pomegranate, a bold and tangy flavor made with 100 percent California-grown pure pomegranate juice; Watermelon, a crisp and refreshing summertime favorite and Salted Caramel, a featured flavor that is the perfect blend of salty and sweet.

Pinkberry customers can personalize every yogurt experience with dozens of combination of toppings like Grade-A fresh fruit that is hand-cut daily in-store, organic gummy bears with no high fructose corn syrup, all natural honey almond granola, 100% pure Pomegranate juice, or rich, premium Belgian chocolate shavings.

In addition to frozen yogurt and toppings for immediate consumption, Pinkberry also offers Pinkberry Take Home, 25 ounces of Pinkberry, swirled-to-order and packed on ice to ensure your Swirly Goodness will get home safely to your freezer. Pinkberry also offers Fruit Parfaits, Smoothies, and Fresh Fruit Bowls as fresh, satisfying choices for any time of day.

Pinkberry will compete with an existing Red Mango frozen yogurt store down the street. Pinkberry will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until midnight. It will stay open until 1:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Soooo, how will this compete with Red Mango? Whats the difference? Seems like the exact same product and marketing.

    • J

      Thus competition duh!!

    • Economist In Training

ummmmmm . . . perhaps on price then?

  • Ben

Welcome to Clarendon. A huge majority of new businesses that open up here are simply repeats (e.g. THREE separate cupcake stores… really?!).

    • R.Griffon

I know Bakeshop and Crumbs. Which one am I missing?

      • Ben

        Red Velvet incoming.

  • I’ve never had Pinkberry, but I can’t imagine it’ll be anywhere as good as Red Mango.

  • shelley

Pinkberry is amazing!! Red Mango doesn’t stand a chance against them.

  • Sarah

Pinkberry is SO GOOD. The stuff they serve at Red Mango is like watered down yogurt product. The late hours are pretty awesome, too.

    • Clarendude

Is this like the Bud vs Bud Lite argument ?

  • Tre

This excitement will get me through the week…oh wait… nope, nevermind.

Does anyone want to invest with me to start up a place that serves frozen yogurt as icing on a cupcake?

      • anon

        Have that at Northside already.

  • Eric LeKuch

Larrys Ice Cream is 4 times better than both those places, that is the clarendon spot

    • Rosslyn Boom

Agreed. These stupid chains are no good for Arlington, Larrys Rules.

    • Cookiepuss

Carvel Ice Cream cakes blow anything here away. The perfect crunchie-to-ice cream ratio!

    • rr

Larry’s sucks and is over priced for a ice cream that tastes far from home made

    • R.Griffon

I’ve tried that place twice now and been underwhelmed both times.

But I’m sure I’ll try again. I also love that you can get a bagel or breakfast sandwich there too.

  • Jennifer

If you’re going to plug Larrys Ice Cream, please tell me where it is. I’ve never heard of it.

    • LP

On Wilson, next to BGR and Hard Times.

    • Rosslyn Boom

my bad, it is next to BGR Jennifer. The owner is funny and the two times I have been there, MJ was on blast.

  • Dan

“Pinkberry customers can personalize every yogurt experience ”

    Sounds a bit kinky !!

  • CW

Give me a damn TCBY any day and I’ll be set…this is just an overpriced, yuppified version of what worked just fine 20 years ago.

    • BerryBerryCold

There used to be a TCBY. It closed (Fall 2009) due to the high cost of business in Arlington, at least that’s what the owner said.

      • CW

I believe TCBY filed Chapter 11 that year and reorganized. Theoretically they’re still out there somewhere but not as prevalent as they were in the mid 90’s.

I don’t know exactly how TCBY’s financial relationship with its franchisees worked, but if they set pricing as a brand standard at the corporate level, it does make sense that they could have been forced out of this market. That said, these new places with sky’s-the-limit pricing should have no such problems.

      • JamesE

I miss it dearly, because the blimpies was there as well.

  • KalashniKEV

I like the Sweet Frog out in Chantilly.

    • Sweet Frog

      I like you too, KEV.

  • reader

I love Pinkberry after spending several years in California. BUT, must all new frozen yogurt / cupcake joints open up in Clarendon? There are other places in Arlington!

    • Tre

      Yes, they must.

      • Tired Businesses

        Don’t forget the burger/pizza joints.
