The Anime USA convention, an annual celebration of Japanese arts and popular culture, has brought plenty of colorful, costumed characters to Crystal City over the years.

This year’s convention at the Crystal City Hyatt was no exception — but it also represented what may be the last hurrah for the convention’s tenure in Arlington. Next year Anime USA will be held at the Washington Marriott Wardman, off of Connecticut Avenue in Northwest D.C.

“The Marriott will offer a larger, convienent [sic], and more cell phone friendly location as the [convention] continues to grow,” organizers wrote on the Anime USA blog.

The convention attracts thousands of passionate attendees each year. Below are some of the more memorable costumes we spotted around Crystal City Friday night.

Alright, time to fess up. Which of you ARLnow posters are in these pictures?

If it is, I’ll have to reconsider my opinion of the little hottie…..

Add in a star trek convention with this and we could make Arlington the Virgin capital of the USA.

If they take a field trip to Clarendon during last call, they might make some strides to fix that.

      • novasteve

Yeah, nothing more appealing to clarendon women than dorks dressed as orcs or in star trek uniforms.

I went to this a couple of years ago. Anime conventions are a lot of fun (my favorite is Otakon, held in Baltimore)!

A lot of the pictures here are characters from Final Fantasy, with a few from Kingdom Hearts, one Legend of Zelda, one Avatar: The Last Airbender, a few from DC comic books, but my favorite is the guy dressed as Mint-berry Crunch (South Park)!

    Geek and proud of it.

  • Michael H.

So that’s what was going on. I thought it was a group of people who misread the calendar and thought it was Halloween.

  • Beth M

Are any of these events young teen appropriate? I have a 13 yo daughter who is totally into this stuff, but a lot of anime events are not PG-rated.

  • Steve85

That chick in the white shirt is cute!!!!

    • ArlingtonNative

Yessir…dressed like that, she can throw punches at me all day!

      • Steve85

        Yeah buddy!!!!!!

    • novasteve

She’s a professional Convention person. I recognize her pic form other dork events.

  • Ogre

  • charlie
