‘Sultana Grill’ to Replace Castro’s Bakery in Bluemont

A new restaurant/cafe called Sultana Grill will be opening soon in Bluemont.

Sultana Grill will replace the former Castro’s Bakery location, which closed earlier this year, at 5515 Wilson Blvd. The new restaurant’s owners tell ARLnow.com that it will serve Mediterranean/Lebanese cuisine like kebabs, crepes, couscous, and baba ghanoush.

The owners are hoping to open the restaurant as soon as this coming Saturday (Oct. 13). As of Friday afternoon, work was still in progress on the interior of the eatery.

    Hookah there?

Is this a takeout version of Layalina across the street?

I’m allergic to the “authentic” smell of Layalina, and haven’t been back since Me Jana opened. Another option is always welcome.

Judging from the proximity of the parking in the picture, I give it 4 months before it becomes a “drive thru.”

It’s next door to La Union restaurant, which has been around for many years.

I’m talking four months before someone drives their car through the front of the restaurant-looks like a total of 3 feet from the front of the parking spaces to the building and no bollards.

With Layalina across the street and Fettoosh further down the block, it seems like an already-saturated market, but as someone who lives in the hood, I’m hoping it’s good. Was kinda hoping for a coffee shop though!

+1 – I live nearby too and would loved an iteration of Java Shack or something like that in the same spot.

Tried Fettoosh based on yelp reviews and couldn’t be more dissapointed.

When fettosh was in georgetown, used to go there drunk all the time. Seemed like the best food on earth, though I don’t know if it would have been had I been sober.

If a business like Castro’s Bakery can fail, I have to believe that “Hugo Chavez’s Weight Loss Center” will be going down the tubes pretty soon as well.

Castros didn’t fail. It moved to 7 Corners. Bigger spot and better location for parking. Not sure how another restaurant next to La Union will fare, especially with only about 8 – 10 parking spots for them.

Castro’s didn’t fail, I think they just closed this storefront – they have a big store in 7 Corners. Got a cake from them in May – it was excellent.

Layalina is very tasty–but a tad expensive for what you get. This place might do well if it offers a cheaper alternative. Something like Moby Dick’s.

I would love to see a coffee shop there. A coffee shop would operate mostly in the mornings and thus would not compete for parking with La Union (which is excellent, by the way).

But I wish these new guys the best.

There’s a perfect spot for a coffee shop next two doors down from there where there used to be a nail salon. Would love a little more diversity on that stretch.
