Amazon Holding ‘Career Day’ in Crystal City

Arlington is one of six locations where Amazon is holding an “Amazon Career Day” next week.

The tech and retail giant is seeking to fill some 30,000 open positions — including around 75 at Amazon’s growing second headquarters in Arlington.

The company noted on the page for its Arlington jobs event that it already had a sizable presence in the Commonwealth prior to HQ2.

“In Virginia, Amazon has created more than 10,000 full-time jobs and we’re excited to create even more,” the page says. “Arlington is the new home of our second headquarters and we have plans to create 25,000 new jobs here over the next 12 years. We also have over two dozen customer fulfillment facilities, wind farms and retail locations throughout the state, and tens of thousands of authors, small and medium sized businesses, and developers growing their businesses using Amazon products and services.”

Previously, a company spokesperson said Amazon was on track to hire 400 HQ2 employees by the end of the year.

The career fair is scheduled to take place at The Grounds in Crystal City, at 1102 S. Eads Street, from 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. It will include talks from Amazon leaders and information about working at the company.

Any interested member of the public is invited to attend. Amazon says recruiters will be on hand but they will not be conducting interviews or taking applications at the event.

More from a press release, after the jump.

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced Amazon Career Day on Tuesday, September 17th, a series of events across the U.S. where anyone can learn more about the 30,000 full and part-time jobs available at Amazon in locations across the country, from the company’s headquarters and tech hubs to datacenters and fulfillment centers. There are jobs for people with all types of experience, education, and skill levels – from entry-level roles at Amazon’s fulfillment centers working with the latest robotics technology, software development engineers helping make Alexa smarter, or computer vision scientists building the technology behind Amazon Go. All candidates will have access to on-the-job training and upskilling opportunities as part of the company’s $700 million Upskilling 2025 initiative to help employees gain new skills to build their career.

Amazon will hold six Amazon Career Day events across the U.S. where candidates can learn more about the career opportunities with the company. The events on September 17th are in Arlington – the site of the company’s second headquarters in North America – as well as Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, and Seattle. Amazon Career Day events are open to anyone interested in learning more about opportunities with Amazon, from applying for a job with the company to learning more about how to start a business delivering packages or selling online. For more information – including how to register for the events and apply for open roles – visit amazon.jobs/careerday.

“Amazon has created more than 300,000 new jobs in the U.S. over the last decade – and we’re proud to continue investing and creating opportunities for people across the country,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO. “These are jobs with highly competitive compensation and full-benefits from day one, as well as training opportunities to gain new skills in high-demand fields such as robotics and machine learning.”

Candidates can explore open positions on amazon.jobs – and they can learn about the fastest-growing jobs at Amazon here. The Amazon Career Day events will feature businesses across Amazon, and recruiters will be on-hand to talk to candidates about corporate roles at our 18 Tech Hubs, as well as within our customer fulfillment, delivery, and retail facilities. In addition to the positions available at the company, the events will include informational sessions on how to be your own boss with help from Amazon by selling on Amazon, starting your own delivery company becoming a Delivery Service Partner, or publishing your own book.

Additionally, Amazon is starting to hire for tens of thousands of seasonal roles for its operations network in the coming weeks to meet increased demand for the holiday season. Candidates interested in these positions – also paying $15/hour – can visit amazondelivers.jobs.

Validating one’s emotions has the power to heal, transform, and empower. What Is Validation? Every human being has feelings. We all have emotions that change over time, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. The question isn’t whether we feel; it’s how we handle feelings once they arise.

Building strategies to understand emotions is essential to positive mental health, and validation is one effective skill to practice.

Emotional validation is the process of understanding, embracing, and actively listening to another person’s feelings (or your own).

Understanding someone’s emotions doesn’t necessarily mean you approve of how they are feeling or reacting to something. You can be supportive in acknowledging and validating an emotional experience without agreeing or diminishing it. Validation is a skill to learn and improve over time. It may take practice, but the effort is most certainly worth it. Emotional validation has the power to enhance interpersonal communication and foster strong relationships.
