TRAFFIC ALERT: Columbia Pike blocked by gas leak

Columbia Pike blocked by gas leak on May 1, 2024

Columbia Pike was blocked between S. Quincy and Quebec streets due to a gas leak.

Initial reports suggest that a construction crew struck a one-inch gas line, resulting in an active leak sizable enough to prompt a road closure.

As of 1:30 p.m., firefighters were on scene, waiting for Washington Gas to stop the leak. As of 2 p.m., the road has reopened, according to Arlington Alert.

This section of the Pike has been under construction since 2022 as part of the ongoing Columbia Pike Multimodal Street Improvements project. Construction on this segment, centered around S. George Mason Drive, is set to wrap up in 2025.
