A forthcoming apartment building at the former site of a Wendy’s in Courthouse is named — wait for it — The Wendy.
The 231-unit building, which broke ground in late 2022, is expected to open this fall, according to signage.
News of the development’s name, posted on X by Fox 5 anchor Steve Chenevey, earned a less-than-enthusiastic response from the namesake fast-food chain, which is active on social media.

The building’s website advertises “minimal, natural interiors” with floor-to-ceiling windows in studios to three-bedroom apartments. The site at 2025 Clarendon Blvd, about a block from the Courthouse Metro station, is located in a hub of commercial activity.
“Here, residents find room to breathe while staying connected to their on-the-go lifestyle,” the website says.
The site sat vacant for years after construction crews demolished the Wendy’s and a Wells Fargo bank. The original developer, Carr Properties, intended to build a 12-story office building on the location but couldn’t find a tenant.
The county greenlit the current project in early 2022.
The Wendy is substantially taller than the maximum height of 10 stories recommended by the Rosslyn to Courthouse Urban Design Study. Developer Greystar Real Estate Partners secured an additional six stories by transferring some development rights from the Courthouse-area residential complex Wakefield Manor.
