The sushi and Thai food restaurant in Cherrydale at 3813 Langston Blvd has once again changed hands.
Now renamed Siam Miyaki, this represents the eatery’s fifth change in ownership in four years. Arlington residents Onin Saleerum and Isara “Ming” Tawkrue have taken over the lease from May Ditnoy, the previous owner of Siam Shinzo, which was previously known as Tuna Restaurant.
Siam Miyaki, which celebrated its official grand opening on Saturday, June 1, continues to offer the same cuisine as its predecessor. However, the menu has been updated to include various bubble teas and a selection of specialty Thai sweets, such as Thai tea and honey toast with ice cream and homemade orange cake.
“It’s a puffy Asian-style cake that’s not as heavy as cakes in the U.S.,” Saleerum told ARLnow.
Saleerum and Tawkrue, who have known each other for half a decade and are currently roommates, have extensive food industry experience. After years of working in various roles, Saleerum says they decided to take a leap of faith and try their hand at running an Asian fusion restaurant.
The opportunity arose after Ditnoy was forced to step away from the business due to personal reasons.
“It’s a dream job,” she said.
Since its opening, Miyaki, which in Japanese means a palace, shrine, or temple, has been relatively busy, according to Saleerum.
“We picked up some of the customers [from Siam Shinzo] and we know a lot of Thai people in the community, so they just kind of support us,” Saleerum.
