Most county facilities closing for July 4, transit on modified schedules

County offices, courts, community centers and all public library locations will all close Thursday for Independence Day.

Curbside collection of recycling, trash and organics will continue on regular hours, as will the special collection of brush, metal and e-waste. However, the Earth Products Yard and Household Hazardous Materials facility in Shirlington will close.

Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule, though several routes will be affected. Those traveling in and around the National Mall should expect detours and delays.

Arlington Transit routes 41, 42, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will also run on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes and the customer service call center will be closed for the day.

The Metrorail will be open from 7 a.m. to midnight, and will offer free fares from 5 p.m. until close.

The Orange, Blue and Silver lines are scheduled to see trains every 12 minutes, then every 10 minutes after 5 p.m. The Yellow line will see trains every eight minutes, then every six minutes after 5 p.m.

Paid parking meters are not enforced in Arlington on holidays, but permit parking will remain in effect unless otherwise noted on signs. Several roads in and around Rosslyn are slated to close. The following roads will close from 4:30-11 p.m.:

  • Marshall Drive, from Route 110 to N. Meade Street
  • N. Meade Street, from Marshall Drive to N. Fairfax Drive
  • Rosslyn exit ramp from westbound Route 50 to N. Lynn Street
  • Rosslyn exit ramp from eastbound Route 50 to N. Meade Street
  • Eastbound N. Fairfax Drive, from N. Pierce Street to N. Fort Myer Drive

Fort Myer Drive between 19th Street N. and Arlington Blvd will close from 9-10 p.m. Memorial Bridge and Memorial Circle will remain closed for the day as well by the National Park Service and the United States Park Police.

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles locations, call center and customer service will close, but its website services will remain accessible.

If you want to beat the heat, spraygrounds across Arlington will remain open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center will have abbreviated hours from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

County Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services and Mental Health Emergency Services remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
