A third Tortas y Tacos la Chiquita is set to open next week in Virginia Square.
Restaurant Owner David Villalobos said the menu at Tortas y Tacos la Chiquita III on 3811 Fairfax Drive will be a “copy and paste” of other Tortas y Tacos locations on Columbia Pike and in Merrifield.
It’s set to open on Tuesday, July 16, in the space formerly occupied by The Union eatery, which shuttered back in March.
Alongside tortas and tacos, the restaurant offers authentic Mexican dishes like flautas, burritos and nachos. Alambres plates come with a protein, sautéed peppers and onions, cheese and chipotle sauce. Huaraches feature handmade tortillas with refried beans, grilled cactus, onions, lettuce, sour cream and sauce on the side.
Villalobos recommends diners try the restaurant’s beef birria tacos, which can be ordered with crispy cheese. He also recommends the menu’s various quesadillas — Asada with New York steak, Hamon with smoked ham and Lengua with beef tongue, to name a few.
Dessert offerings include arroz con leche, or traditional rice pudding, as well as churros, flan and homemade mango mousse cake, among others.
The restaurant is still awaiting liquor license approval. Villalobos expects this approval to come in the next few months.
