After less than a year in business, a Latin American restaurant at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City has seemingly shuttered.

Maizal’s bright yellow exterior sign at 1100 S. Hayes Street, near Macy’s, has been removed and its interior appears to be cleared out.

The restaurant, which sold bowls, arepas, empanadas and other South American specialties, opened in November as the chain’s second outpost in Arlington. Another Maizal opened in Ballston Quarter’s food hall in 2019.

The restaurant’s closure would mark at least the third shuttering of a business in this street-facing portion of the Pentagon City mall. Maizal’s predecessor in the space, fast-casual restaurant Honeygrow, opened in 2016. Next door,  Sugar Factory closed in 2021, while Rosa Mexicano closed in February.

Maizal and the mall could not immediately confirm the closure.
