New ‘Canine Cardio’ program in Green Valley keeps pups active with all-day services

In America’s “fittest city,” some dogs may get the chance to match their owners’ athleticism through a new canine fitness program in Green Valley.

Snouts & Stouts, the indoor dog park and bar that opened 2709 S. Oakland Street last fall, has introduced a new program through Canine Cardio, a Northern Virginia pet care provider offering “a comprehensive range of fitness and training services” for dogs.

From 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Friday, dog owners can now book full and half-day sessions at what is advertised as “the biggest doggie fitness facility in the DMV.”

At the Green Valley center, trainers guide participating pups through swimming lessons, treadmill sessions and tasks to improve balance and coordination, such as balance beam walks. Other activities include structured play sessions, hide and seek, climbing courses, tire runs and jumping exercises.

Outdoor field trips feature adventures to nearby farms, trails and “sniff spots,” where curious pooches can explore new scents and terrain. Forthcoming outdoor activities will also include 30-60 minute cardio sessions where dogs run alongside humans on foot, on bicycles and on rollerblades.

All of this is “designed to help dogs develop a strong sense of self-assurance and courage in a supportive and engaging environment.”

Dog owners must register for sessions at least 12 hours in advance, and their furry friends must pass an “evaluation” before participating.

Snouts & Stouts previously offered a dog daycare program that placed less emphasis on fitness. Daycare clients from before the transition will pay their regular rates until Thursday, Sept. 19, when the company will introduce a new pricing structure.

Half day programs of six hours or less are $45 each, while full day programs are $55. Transportation to and from the facility via school bus is also available for an extra $10.

These changes come under the leadership of new Snouts & Stouts Chief Operations Officer Brittany Schneller, who first founded Canine Cardio in 2018.
