VDOT to discuss plans to rebuild bridge over N. Glebe Road

A public hearing on plans to replace a 60-year-old bridge over N. Glebe Road is happening tonight.

The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to rebuild the Old Glebe Road bridge, just up the hill from Chain Bridge, with a wider sidewalk on the eastern side and an additional sidewalk on the western side.

The $15 million project, currently slated to begin construction in mid-2027, seeks to improve driver and pedestrian safety, enhance pedestrian mobility and reduce maintenance costs, according to a project page.

VDOT intends to replace the bridge, which was built in 1964 and averages 4,100 vehicles per day, because it would be too costly to repair.

A presentation on the plans will take place today (Monday) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Discovery Elementary School (5241 36th Street N.).

Respondents have until Nov. 7 to submit feedback either through the project page or by emailing [email protected].
