A new parkour gym for kids is scheduled to open tomorrow (Friday) in Shirlington.
Scramble Parkour, an indoor facility on the lower level of 2900 S. Quincy Street, offers obstacle courses resembling those seen in shows like “Wipeout” and “American Ninja Warrior.” It promises a safe, clean environment where “adrenaline meets adventure.”
“Scramble Parkour is a place where kids from toddlers to teenagers can run, jump, climb, and let their imaginations run freely,” Scramble CEO Laurence Smallman said in a press release. “It features play areas and challenging courses designed for children of different ages, in surroundings that offer social community and unique opportunities for group fun.”
The new facility — located in the former space of The Energy Club gym —has areas designed for three different age groups: toddlers, pre-K through second grade and “older kids,” age eight through 18.
Ticket prices range from $10 to $24, depending on age and day of the week.
The gym emphasizes both physical and cognitive play, with hundreds of soft magnetic cubes that kids can build with and knock over. It also features numerous colorful murals by D.C.-area street artists E$, Trap Bob, Sarah Jamison, Nia Keturah Calhoun, Nate Mann and Aniekan Udofia.
The Shirlington gym will be the Scramble’s third location and first parkour-themed facility. The business’s other kid gyms are located in Alexandria and Falls Church — and are a popular rainy day and birthday destination for local families.
The new location shares an opening date with a connected restaurant, Union Station Cafe, found on the ground level near the gym’s entrance.
The businesses developed a family-friendly menu alongside consulting executive chef Liam LaCivita, whose credits include Lyon Hall and The Liberty Tavern. The menu features pizza, tacos, sandwiches, salads and Kraft mac n’ cheese.
Scramble Parkour opens to the public at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
