In a winter wonderland today (Monday), several families were spotted indulging in some snow day fun on a hill near the Rosslyn area’s Netherlands Carillon.
Fort Myer resident Ben Wolfert brought his two sons, Nate and Josh, for an afternoon outing on the slope across from the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial, ranked one of the best sledding destinations in Arlington by ARLnow readers.
“As long as we’ve lived in the area — which has been for about eight years now — it’s always pretty, well, not that crowded here, but always a good draw,” Wolfert told ARLnow. “It’s a good hill.”
The family spent the morning taking their “very excited” dog out in the snow, Wolfert added. His sons, age 7 and 10, had off from school and were inside playing Fortnite before coming out to sled.
“It’s nice to get snow,” Wolfert said. “You know, the past few winters, it hasn’t been often that we get snow good enough to sled like this.”
Courthouse resident Jane Green had the same idea for her sons, Fisher and Elliot. While technically working remotely, she spent much of the day treating her family to some winter merriment.
“We went and played in our courtyard a little bit this morning while we waited for the snow to actually stop,” Green said. “Then we had some lunch and bundled up and walked down here.”
Green said the family has also been sledding before at destinations like Rocky Run Park (1109 N. Barton Street) and a hill on S. Eads Street.
As for the Wolferts, they plan to spend the rest of the day in the comfort of their home — likely with hot chocolate in hand.
“We’ll probably go do some more work and keep our fingers crossed that there’s school tomorrow,” Wolfert said. “There’s probably not going to be school tomorrow, to be fair, but one can hope.”
