A new pizza option plans to open soon in Rosslyn, offering Roman-style rectangle pies and Italian cuisine.
Ravenna Pizza is preparing to open for business next month at 1500 Wilson Blvd, where Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop closed in 2022.
The grand opening is Monday, Feb. 24
- Ravenna opens at 11 a.m., introducing an Italian menu with Roman rectangle pizzas, focaccia sandwiches, pastries and gelato prepared in-house.
- The restaurant includes a full-service bar, offering a selection of Italian wines, beers and cocktails.
- This is owner Mustafa Durran’s first restaurant, inspired by a trip to Rome in 2022. In his youth, Durran worked in his family’s restaurant in Afghanistan.
Ravenna offers 15 types of ‘pizza al taglio’
- That’s “pizza by the slice” in Italian — referring to thick slices taken from pies baked in rectangular trays.
- A standard pizza tray at Ravenna is 15 by 23 inches. Ravenna’s pizzas come in medium (quarter-tray) and large (half-tray).
- This kind of pizza dough rises for 72 hours before baking, creating an airy, focaccia-like crust.
Options include the ‘Arlington Supreme’
- The locally named pie is topped with mozzarella, pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, red onions and black olives.
- Other options include Margherita pizza, eggplant parmigiana-inspired pie, four-cheese mushroom and crostino Romano, with baked ham and basil.
- A menu of Italian desserts features strawberry panna cotta, a ricotta pistachio cake, tiramisu and homemade gelato.
