Nepalese restaurant ‘Himalayan Wild Yak’ opens in Ballston next week

A new Nepalese restaurant is opening next week in Ballston.

Himalayan Wild Yak is set to open at 1010 N. Glebe Road, where the Booeymonger sandwich shop closed last year. The family-owned restaurant specializes in dishes made with yak, a cultural staple comparable to bison meat, owner Dipraj Magar told ARLnow.

Yak is a Nepalese delicacy

  • The restaurant’s yak is sourced from Pennsylvania and Colorado. Magar recommends the yak momo dumplings and yak korma, served with cashews.
  • Dhaka cloth napkins, Himalayan tea and sel roti, a traditional rice bread, contribute to Himalayan Wild Yak’s goal of offering authentic Nepalese dining.
  • The restaurant also serves dishes like chana masala, tandoori salmon, curry and goat biryani.

It opens next Tuesday, March 18

  • The restaurant will open from 3-9:30 p.m. Tuesday and offer a 50% discount on food for the grand opening.
  • The Ballston restaurant will be the Magar family’s second eatery, joining a first Himalayan Wild Yak in Ashburn at the Brambleton Town Center.
  • Regular hours in Ballston will be from noon to 9:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursdays, and noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
