Spring is here: Where to enjoy beer gardens, patios and outdoor dining in Arlington

Spring is here, bringing warmer weather, longer daylight hours and more outdoor dining in Arlington.

As patios and beer gardens reopen for the season, here are a couple of spots in and around Arlington to enjoy the scenery with drinks or a meal.

Arlington Beer Garden

The Clarendon outdoor patio reopened earlier this month for St. Patrick’s Day, complete with lawn games, umbrellas and cushioned seating. Order from a menu with over two dozen beer and spiked seltzer options. The patio is open Thursday through Sunday, with noon to 2 a.m. hours on Saturday.

Astro Beer Hall

The outer space-themed Shirlington mainstay for donuts, fried chicken and drinks has seating for 140 people on its outdoor patio. Happy hour is from 4-6 p.m., Monday through Friday, offering $2 off select starters and drinks.

Bronson Bierhall

Dog lovers can take their pooches to Bronson Bierhall in Ballston. The dog-friendly German pub has an artificial grass patio with toys, water bowls and treats — and your pet might even be featured on the bar’s Instagram account dedicated to its four-legged friends.

Catboat Pizza Bar

Catboat serves fresh pizza by the slice, alcoholic slushies and other summery bites on the Potomac waterfront. The venue has a spacious outdoor patio with umbrellas and plenty of space on the adjacent lawn, complete with lawn games. It plans to reopen for the season on Thursday, April 10.

Clare and Don’s Beach Shack

The Floridian seafood joint in Falls Church is reminiscent of a warm day on the beach, complete with flip-flops, surfboard decor and a colorful outdoor bar area. Catch 7 p.m. trivia on Thursdays and frequent live music performances.

Lyon Hall

The Clarendon restaurant has outdoor seating for dozens, ideal for date night or a post-work drink. Happy hour is from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 3-6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

The Ballston seafood restaurant and oyster bar has ample seating at its outdoor bar area, which can fit between 40 and 80 guests standing. The outdoor bar is also available to book for private events and receptions.

Westover Market Beer Garden

Catch the beer garden’s packed live music schedule on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights this spring while enjoying one of its beers on tap. The venue’s indoor market also features a “great wall of beer” with over 1,000 domestic, imported and craft brews.

Wilson Hardware

This hardware store-turned-restaurant in Clarendon includes a large rooftop bar, which has been voted “Best Rooftop Bar” in Northern Virginia Magazine for five consecutive years. The restaurant’s garden terrace patio, decked out with greenery and floral decorations, also offers a chic space for cocktails or brunch.
