Fans of large, food-centric gas stations: break out the sparkling wine.
Wawa is reportedly scouting out locations in Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax County and Loudoun County. That’s according to the Washington Business Journal, which says the company “is looking to substantially increase its footprint in Northern Virginia.”
The Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain previously opened a Fairfax City location in 2022. Prior to that, Wawa expressed interest in Arlington in 2017 amid an expansion into D.C. (A Georgetown location closed in December.)
It’s too early to say when Wawa might open its first Arlington store, but the Business Journal suggests that it’s unlikely to be in the county’s urban corridors.
“The company is seeking pad sites of 1.5 to 3 acres,” WBJ reported. “It’s not actively looking in D.C. and not likely to end up in an urban location like Rosslyn or Crystal City, especially not on sites where a combination convenience store-gas station isn’t possible.”
