Animal-loving filmmakers have tales to tell at a pair of upcoming dog- and cat-themed film festivals on Columbia Pike.
The 2025 New York Cat & Dog Film Festivals are coming to the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse at 2903 Columbia Pike. It’s a two-night event on Tuesday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 7 “celebrating the love, charm, and companionship of our feline and canine friends.”
Each festival will feature a curated collection of short films about furry friends.
Dog-themed films run the gamut from funny to heart-wrenching. The films “A Dog Can Make a Difference,” “The Wingman” and “To Comfort & Serve” all involve dogs helping their veteran owners handle PTSD. Others are more whimsical, like Buffy & The Balloon, an animated short about a dog meeting a special balloon.
The cat films span a similar range, from “A New Home for an Old Cat,” about an older feline adopted from a shelter, to sillier flicks like “Mikey Hammer, Purrivate Eye.”
Admission is $38 per event, with proceeds benefitting the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA).
“These one-of-a-kind film festivals bring together animal lovers and film enthusiasts for an unforgettable experience while raising funds for AWLA’s lifesaving programs,” the AWLA said in a release. “Attendees will enjoy an evening of inspiring films, community engagement, and opportunities to meet adoptable pets — all while making a difference for animals in need.”
All films are family-friendly but admission is 21+ unless accompanied by a parent.
- NY Cat Film Festival: Tuesday, May 6 at 7 p.m.
- NY Dog Film Festival: Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m.
Both events will be preceded by a 6 p.m. pre-show event with adoptable animals and vendors.
