A celebrity chef-partnered food hall and delivery service plans to open in Rosslyn as part of a new D.C.-area expansion.
Wonder, which aims to make “great food more accessible” by hosting various celebrity chef-founded restaurants, recently applied for a permit to renovate “an existing restaurant” at 1771 N. Pierce Street. This is the same address as the former Rosslyn Foxtrot.
Partners include José Andrés
- Wonder’s 27 vendors include Andrés’ Spanish restaurant, Jota, a steakhouse founded by Bobby Flay, and Marcus Samuelsson’s fried chicken eatery, Streetbird.
- Last spring, billionaire founder Marc Lore told The New York Times the venture could be “the Amazon of food and beverage.” It promises delivery within 30 minutes.
- The food hall intends to partner with DC Central Kitchen, a nonprofit that provides job training and food assistance services.
It plans to open by this fall
- Wonder applied for a mechanical permit on the ground floor of Cortland apartments last month.
- A flagship D.C. location is expected to open in June on D.C.’s 14th Street. A total of seven regional outposts are in the works.
It was founded by Walmart’s ex-CEO
- Lore, a self-described “serial entrepreneur,” founded the Wonder Group in 2018 as a food delivery service.
- The group has made several big-name acquisitions in recent years, including Grubhub, Blue Apron and the media company Tastemade.
