* IMPACTS…Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

– At 1107 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen.
Parts of Arlington saw several inches of rainfall in a short period of time Friday night, causing streams to quickly rise.

The rain just west of DC — that triggered the flash flood warning (now discontinued) — was heavy. Up to 3" fell in one hour in South Arlington. Many reports of 1-3" in an hour in N. Va that caused streams to rise 6-7 feet.

Wow! In 54 minutes, 1.82 inches of rain fell in central Arlington.
Rainfall rates of 2 inches per hour… if you're in it, you get a quick burst of very heavy rainfall.

Storms producing very heavy rain have overspread parts of Northern Virginia including Arlington, potentially leading to life-threatening flash flooding.

The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
