A Shirlington Italian restaurant is shutting its doors for repairs after flooding earlier this month.
Corso Italian will be closed at 4024 Campbell Avenue for an uncertain period of time after flooding on Aug. 2 caused “significant damage” to a dining room and the basement, owner Jill Erber wrote in a letter to customers yesterday (Wednesday).
One entrance to Central Library has temporarily closed, kicking off several months of renovations to stop water from getting into the building and its parking garage.
The public entrance to the library on N. Quincy Street closed last week and is currently fenced off. Much of the patio has been torn up into piles of bricks as the $2.3 million project, first approved in the county’s 2025-2034 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), gets underway.
A Flood Watch will be going into effect early Wednesday amid a threat of heavy rainfall tomorrow morning.
After a humid weekend that saw more than 3 inches of rain fall on parts of Arlington, the area got to enjoy a sunny and considerably less sweltering Tuesday. That’s all about to change, though.
A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Arlington amid sustained heavy rainfall.
The warning is in effect until 7:45 p.m. Nearly an inch of rain has fallen in at least one northern Arlington neighborhood with the latest wave of storms, which also prompted a Flood Watch following heavy rain earlier today.
Update at 2:15 p.m. — On top of everything else, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch was just issued for the region, through 9 p.m. Severe storms packing damaging winds are possible later today (Saturday), with some Severe Thunderstorm Warnings already in effect west of the immediate D.C. area.

Update at 2:35 p.m. — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was just issued, on top of the earlier Flood Watch. The storm watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Storms later today may pack damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Update on 6/28/26 — Another Flood Watch has been issued and is in effect through 2 p.m. Sunday, covering D.C., Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax County. It comes as a stalled front drops heavy rain on the area.

Arlington’s internal auditor is continuing to review the county’s response to flash floods in 2019 and resulting efforts to improve stormwater infrastructure.
This is one of several audits that auditor Wayne Scott and his deputy, Shirley Brothwell, will work on during the fiscal year that begins July 1.
A controversial proposal to build 47 townhouses in the Waverly Hills neighborhood is returning for discussion at an upcoming County Board meeting.
Last month, Board members deferred a vote on the project, which staff opposes but neighborhood organizations and county advisory commissions largely support. It’s one of several items up for consideration at the Board meeting on Saturday.
Plans for a 141-unit redevelopment project, renovations at a Gunston Park playground and potential changes to charging standards for electric vehicles are all on the agenda at an upcoming County Board meeting.
Other items slated for discussion this month include road improvements on S. George Mason Drive and flood-mitigation efforts near Cardinal Elementary School.
A proposed tweak to Arlington’s two-year-old stormwater-fee program could help members of homeowners’ associations save a little money.
County Board members are considering a possible change to the county’s stormwater-credit fee in areas where homeowners’ groups have made specific stormwater improvements. The change, which Board members voted to advertise for an October public hearing, would allow for financial rebates of up to 35%.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax County, the District and surrounding areas.
The watch is now in effect and goes through 9 p.m. Heavy storms are expected this afternoon and evening, with the potential for flash flooding from excessive rainfall.
