A proposed tweak to Arlington’s two-year-old stormwater-fee program could help members of homeowners’ associations save a little money.

County Board members are considering a possible change to the county’s stormwater-credit fee in areas where homeowners’ groups have made specific stormwater improvements. The change, which Board members voted to advertise for an October public hearing, would allow for financial rebates of up to 35%.

Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible across the region, with thunderstorms later today capable of producing very heavy rain at rates of 1 to 2 inches in 30 minutes.

A new stormwater vault at Cardinal Elementary School has been holding up well despite this summer’s heavy rains, county staff say.

The vault under the elementary school’s ballfield in Highland Park-Overlee Knolls, which opened in fall 2023, reached its highest water level yet on June 13 but was never in danger of overflowing.
