The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Arlington and Northern Virginia, effective from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
Heat index values are expected to reach up to 110 degrees, creating dangerously hot conditions that significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. An Extreme Heat Watch is also in effect for Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening, as the heat wave continues.
Officials are urging residents to take precautions and avoid extended time outdoors this week due to the heat.

IMPACTS: Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
An extreme heat watch is in effect for much of Virginia this week, with heat indexes expected above 110°.
