Arlington, Falls Church and other parts of the D.C. area are under a Flood Watch today.
The watch is in effect from 2 p.m. Monday until midnight. Forecasters say storms today will have torrential downpours that could quickly cause flooding on already saturated ground.
“Tropical moisture will combine with a slow moving frontal system to produce very heavy rainfall,” said the National Weather Service. “A mixture of slow moving storms and the potential for multiple rounds of convection will increase the risk of flash flooding.”

Arlington’s last major flood event happened on July 8, 2019, when a period of exceptionally heavy rain led to widespread flooding and numerous water rescues from flooded roadways and intersections. The county has since invested in a number of flood mitigation measures.
