Falls Church is getting a new destination for cheese and charcuterie.
Contractors are currently building the storefront for The Cheese Cartel at 922 W. Broad Street, founder Alyssa Romashko told ARLnow. The new small business plans to carry a rotating selection of meats, cheeses, wines and bread.
It’ll have premade charcuterie boards
- The shop will cater to foodies with cheese clubs, wine tastings and grab-and-go baguette sandwiches.
- Plans for the 1,410-square foot space include a large community table and indoor seating for about 30 guests, along with some outdoor tables.
- “I think it will be a place other people are excited to come and hang out, or just grab their wine and cheese,” Romashko told ARLnow. “Never a bad time for wine and cheese.”
For the owner, cheese is a family affair
- After moving to Falls Church from Chicago three years ago, Romashko said she missed having a go-to place for charcuterie.
- Romashko has fond memories of assembling charcuterie boards with her family during the holidays. Her idea for The Cheese Cartel came out of a wine night with her siblings.
- “[For] my husband and I, every Friday night is wine and cheese night,” she said. “Now it’s cute because my kids love to come in and have an opinion. My son likes to pick out the gooey cheeses.”
It will sell local goods
- Some goat cheeses will be sourced from the Front Royal-based creamery, Happy Creek Cheeses.
- Other future partners include the gluten-free bakery The Happy Tart and Alexandria honey provider Del Ray Bee. Nomini Boards will also offer artisan boards made with Virginia wood.
