Glebe Road partially blocked in Ballston after person in wheelchair struck

All northbound lanes of N. Glebe Road were temporarily blocked at N. Carlin Springs Road after a pedestrian was reportedly struck near the entrance to the Ballston mall parking garage.

The incident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Initial reports suggest that a person in a wheelchair was struck by a driver and suffered facial injuries.

Archived traffic camera footage did not show the crash but appears to show the victim waiting at the intersection before crossing with the light in a crosswalk and ending up in the roadway in front of a pickup truck.

So far there’s no word on the extent of injuries nor what exactly happened.

“Expect delays and seek alternate routes,” said an Arlington Alert message about the lane closures. As of 4:30 p.m. one northbound lane of Glebe was getting by the scene.
