Daydrift, a new West Coast-inspired cafe and bookstore, is opening for business next week in Crystal City.
Starting Monday, the cafe plans to offer food, drinks and a curated range of reads in a warm, relaxing atmosphere at 1550 Crystal Drive, according to a press release. It takes the place of former bakery and cafe Mah-Ze-Dahr, which closed earlier this year.
“As National Landing grows into a destination for food, art, and community, Daydrift adds something unexpected to the mix,” Episcope Hospitality founder David Morton said in the release. “It’s a little slice of the West Coast on the East Coast – sunny, creative, and built for lingering.”
Daydrift to host book clubs, author talks
- The cafe hopes to engage customers with “staff favorites” book lists, original book clubs, author talks and “blind date”-inspired book events.
- Teaser videos shared by the cafe this week show book shelves stocked with titles by authors like Taylor Jenkins Reid, Sally Rooney and Ocean Vuong.
- The cafe is operator Episcope Hospitality’s second project in the neighborhood, joining outdoor food hall Water Park across the street.
Its menu is globally inspired
- From soba noodle bowls to citrus madeleines, lavender lattes and super green smoothies, Daydrift’s wide-ranging menu references international flavors.
- Leading the kitchen is longtime chef Brad McDonald, whose previous work experiences include Michelin-starred restaurants like Per Se in New York City.
- More details are forthcoming on the cafe’s catering menu, which will include a variety of “seasonal, shareable dishes,” according to the cafe’s website.
