Union Kitchen closes in Ballston after five years

A Ballston lunch spot and corner store has shuttered after five years.

D.C.-based Union Kitchen closed its lone Arlington location at 4104 Wilson Blvd last week. The business opened at 4104 Wilson Blvd, between Punch Bowl Social and Compass Coffee, in summer 2020.

A sign announcing the closure was posted on the door for much of the week, and “final goodbyes” were held Friday as the store was being packed up. The company did not return a request for comment on what triggered the decision.

Locally, the Ballston location was perhaps best known for its lunch menu featuring assorted sandwiches and salads. The store also offered dozens of locally sourced grocery items.

Founded in 2012, Union Kitchen serves as an accelerator for local food and beverage businesses, assisting new brands as they seek to scale up operations and expand their customer base. Union Kitchen still operates four storefronts in D.C., as well as one at Dulles International Airport.

Union Kitchen’s last day follows the closure of a nearby Starbucks that shuttered in September at 4000 Wilson Blvd.
