Arlington and the rest of the immediate D.C. and Baltimore metros are now under a Winter Weather Advisory.
There is now less uncertainty about whether there will be accumulating snowfall. Flakes are set to start flying late Saturday or early Sunday, with 1-3 inches expected to fall by the time the precipitation wraps up Sunday morning.
There’s a possibility that some areas may see even higher snow totals, depending on where a “narrow band of heavier snow” sets up during the storm.
County and state crews have been pre-treating roads since Thursday in anticipation of the snow. Arlington County typically does not plow roads when there’s less than 2 inches of accumulation, opting instead to use salt and plow only when police report slippery conditions on hilly roads causing crashes or stuck drivers.
Anything that falls will stick with us for a couple of days: temperatures Sunday and Monday are expected to stay below freezing, before a warm up starting Tuesday.
