BREAKING: Arlington Public Schools closed Monday as snow continues to fall

With heavy snow continuing to fall, Arlington Public Schools has decided to close Monday.

The snow day for Arlington students follows earlier decisions by nearby Fairfax County and Montgomery County to also close. D.C. schools, meanwhile, will open on a two-hour delay.

More from APS:

CODE 1: After further review and due to the worsening weather conditions, all APS schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Mon, Feb. 23, 2026. Unless otherwise directed by their supervisors, custodial, maintenance and essential transportation staff should report to work at their scheduled time. Extracurricular activities, games, team practices, field trips, adult education classes, and programs in schools and on school grounds are canceled.

Arlington County facilities, meanwhile, will open on a delay.

“Due to inclement weather, Arlington County Government facilities will open and judicial court proceedings will begin at 10:00 AM on Monday, Feb. 23, unless otherwise stated,” the county announced just after 9:30 p.m. “Libraries will open at 12 PM”

So far, there has been no announcement about the status of residential trash collection.

Across Arlington, many roads — including main roads — are at least partially snow-covered. ARLnow has observed VDOT crews plowing state-maintained roads in Arlington, something typically done once at least two inches of snow accumulates.

Arlington County’s snow plow map is currently inactive, but the Dept. of Environmental Services said via social media that crews are out.

“Some 40 trucks are working across the County, with salt or brine available, plus plowing for areas with at least 2 inches of flakes,” DES said. “Heavier so far in north Arlington. Stay off the road and plan for a slow morning.”

Snow is expected to continue falling into the overnight hours, followed by a breezy Monday with highs in the upper 30s.
