Chelsea Market & Deli eyes new spot at former Bob & Edith’s on Langston Blvd

The former Bob & Edith’s Diner location on Langston Blvd may not be vacant for long.

Chelsea Market & Deli, which currently operates a location in Courthouse Plaza, filed a liquor license application at 5050 Langston Blvd on Feb. 4. That’s roughly a week after Bob & Edith’s announced its closure on Jan. 26.

Chelsea Market & Deli did not respond to a request for comment. It’s unclear if it would be relocating or expanding.

The deli, which opened at 2250 Clarendon Blvd in 2017, offers a slate of New York-inspired bites like pastrami sandwiches, calzones and pizza. It also serves breakfast bites including omelets and breakfast sandwiches until 11 a.m.

“It seems like here, everything is so franchised and the food is good sometimes, but you don’t get that home cooking taste anymore,” owner Shawn Kim told ARLnow in 2017. “I’m trying to bring that food back.”

The Bob & Edith’s location at 5050 Langston Blvd — one of eight across Northern Virginia — had been around almost as long as Chelsea Market & Deli. Owner Greg Bolton purchased the site in 2018, resulting in the departure of Linda’s Cafe after two decades.
